Vitamin E plays a crucial role in shielding cell membranes from damage caused by oxygen free radicals. It acts as a protective agent, helping to prevent premature aging of the skin induced by UV irradiation and lipid peroxidation.

Tocopherols and tocotrienols, the components of Vitamin E, efficiently scavenge lipid peroxyl free radicals, acting as chain-breaking antioxidants. This process is vital in limiting the propagation of lipid peroxidation in cell membranes. It's important to note that tocopherol may potentially act as a pro-oxidant in the absence of co-antioxidants like Vitamin C and under mild oxidative stress.

Natural Vitamin E can be prone to instability in skincare formulations, especially under UV irradiation.
