The Argan (Argania spinosa) tree, an extraordinary thorny tree primarily found in the southwestern regions of Morocco, yields one of the world's rarest oils from its seeds. Flourishing in the arid climate of this area, the fruits of the Argan tree require nearly a year to ripen. Comprising a thin, fleshy, and challenging-to-peel exterior surrounding an inner nut with up to three large seeds, it is these seeds that are rich in essential fatty acids, tocopherols, phytosterols, and triterpene alcohols.
Argan oil boasts an impressive composition, with up to 80% unsaturated fatty acids, predominantly Oleic acid (45%) and Linoleic acid (35%). Additionally, it contains around 1% of unsaponifiables containing biologically active substances such as phytosterols, triterpene alcohols, tocopherols, hydrocarbons, carotenes, and xanthophylls.
Our Virgin Argan Oil undergoes deodorization to eliminate the pungent scent, remaining unrefined. To counteract oxidation, we store and ship Argan oil under an inert Argon gas blanket. While refrigeration is not immediately necessary, for long-term storage, we recommend keeping Argan oil under refrigeration.
Research has identified the optimum required HLB (Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance) for Argan Oil as 11, as noted in the article "Argan oil-in-water emulsions: preparation and stabilization" by Yaghmur et al. (Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, January 1999, Vol 76, Issue 1, pp 15-18).
