Harvested from the seeds found within the berries of deciduous shrubs native to expansive regions of Europe and Asia, Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil is also successfully cultivated in various countries, including Canada. Despite the acidity and astringency of Sea Buckthorn berries, they are edible and nutritionally rich, containing vitamins A, B1, B12, C, E, K, and P, as well as flavonoids, lycopene, carotenoids, and phytosterols. The seeds and their resultant oil maintain a nearly equal ratio of linolenic (Omega-3) and linoleic (Omega-6) acids, coupled with a significant Vitamin E content and elevated levels of carotenoids.
Cold-pressed Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil exhibits a light orange/red color and is generally non-staining when incorporated into formulations at typical amounts below 10%. However, at full strength, some skin staining may occur due to the high carotene content inherent in the seed oil.
Similar to Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil, Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil is a valuable addition to formulations targeting wrinkle reduction and relief for dry, irritated skin, thanks to its free radical scavenging and tissue regeneration properties. Research indicates its potential to enhance antioxidant levels and decrease reactive oxygen species when applied topically. Clinical studies further support its ability to improve skin metabolism, retard skin maturation, and contribute to slowing down the aging process. Additionally, the oil may aid in reducing the damaging effects of sun radiation due to its nutrient-rich composition.
