N-acetyl glucosamine is classified as a "skin-identical ingredient," indicating its presence in the spaces between skin cells. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the skin's barrier functions and reducing dryness. Numerous studies have demonstrated the multifaceted benefits of N-acetyl glucosamine (NAG), including increased collagen production, enhanced skin moisture, improved skin elasticity, heightened exfoliation, and accelerated wound healing.

Moreover, NAG has exhibited effectiveness in reducing hyperpigmentation, and when combined with niacinamide, its capacity to diminish hyperpigmentation is further enhanced. N-Acetyl Glucosamine, categorized as an amino sugar, boasts skin exfoliating properties similar to alpha and beta hydroxy acids, offering a gentler alternative for individuals with sensitive or rosacea-prone skin.

Notably, high concentrations of NAG, even up to 10%, have not shown noticeable skin irritation. It is soluble at levels up to 25%, although solutions below 10% will maintain clarity and remain colorless.
